The title for this post is based on the fact that “Liquid Dreams” by O-Town came on my iTunes at the moment I decided to take a break from organizing my music and write this blog post. Ugh, Never really did like those boy bands (with the minor exception of the Backstreet Boys and Dong Bang Shin Ki…the latter of which is the unfortunate result of being friends with Diana–check her at 2.leaf.clover!–love you!). Anyway, the point of this post is to rant about how obnoxious it is to organize music in iTunes as I’ve been slowly learning over the past few weeks (no I haven’t been very good at organizing it everyday which is why it’s taking so long). Jackie keeps reminding me that I should download whatever program it is that he uses to organize my music with…I just don’t know if I could handle dealing with a new program.
I guess one of the things that makes it so much more obnoxious for me to organize is the fact that I mass download most of my music, or at least I used to. Back when I was really into j-pop and j-rock (mostly j-rock) I used to go on “new artist hunting sprees” and hop from one mp3 rotation site to the next searching for my next favorite j-rocker. While this exposed me to a lot of music I wouldn’t have otherwise known about, it meant that most of my music isn’t encoded or whatever with the proper track number, album name and cover, year, genre, lyrics, etc. This can be very obnoxious.
Additionally, since I have an iPhone, I like to have my album covers all organized so that when I tilt my phone horizontally the albums all show up and I can look through them with a swipe of the index finger (it’s really cool and even if it’s not the most useful thing it sure looks pretty!).
Yet with nearly 50 G of music, organizing can be a pretty overwhelming task (kind of like the idea of cleaning my room. I get up from my desk, walk around my room and look at the pile of mixed clean/dirty clothes on the floor and stare at the mess for a good two minutes or so thinking of what to clean first, but then find that I’m too mentally overwhelmed by the idea of cleaning ALL THAT MESS that I just sit back down at my desk and go on facebook for the trillionth time that day–P.S. to all you people addicted to fb it’s wonderfully refreshing to deactivate your account for a few days. It lets you realize how many better things there are to do with your life than sitting in front of a computer cyber stalking your “friends” all day long). I think I have maybe…10 G organized so far, complete with track numbers, year, album name and cover, lyrics, blahblahblah.
I’ve also backed up all that music onto blank DVD discs so that in case my iomega external hard drive ever decides to hate me and die, taking all my music with it, I’ll be safe with completely organized twin files. All I’d need to do is drag all that music back onto my laptop! Yay!
Okay well back to being boring and actually organizing my music instead of just talking about it.
