“Today, because of you what I learned from you every choice
I made was different and my life has completely changed
“To not regret…
maybe, I should have asked you out,
but I couldn’t..
Since I knew that you were with him again.
Someone I really can’t be, and
probably, the reason why you needed to end up with me
before winter break.
“While doing engineering project,
everyone wanted to work at platt,
but I said to them,
‘I really can’t work at platt,
anywhere is fine for me, but please not there.’
I wanted to keep only good memories as possible,
no matter how they thought me as a weirdo.
and same for case party, though I wanted to go.
“I guess,
I am getting to know, the reasons your saying,
you are a bad person.
Though I don’t want, I realize.
However, I still try to not care.
It is you.
“Being Secondary?
It was ok in the beginning,
since I believed that
I could be happy just
being around you.
However, I face more
realistic problems.
It was hard for me
to see your changing,
and most of all,
I hate your being
not honest to yourself.
“When you are bored during semesters, try to find the shooting on the wall.
With stress and complicated feelings,
I drew it while thinking so much about you.
“Anyway, thank you.
Anything form you, even misery and suffering,
I am trying to take it as one of life experiences.
I am kind of sad that I could not write
something I planned or wanted.
I wish you be happy with your life : )

I don’t know why I waste my time
Getting hung up about the things you say
When I open my eyes and it’s a lovely day.
You know sometimes I feel like I’m
Getting snowed under with the things you say
When I open my eyes and it’s a lovely day – Keane “Snowed Under”
je vais passer une nuit blanche.
The 21st was Justin’s 21st birthday, so to celebrate I bought us tickets to a Ted Leo & the Pharmacists concert showing in Hoboken, NJ last night. It was a concert unlike any of the others I had been to before mostly because their music and age appeals to a different crowd from other bands, say, Epik High and Sum 41. Instead of seeing mosh pits or knowing you could remain upright even if you lifted your feet off the ground because your body was being held up by the other bodies around you we saw young-old adults (maybe late 20′s to early 40′s?) swaying and bopping their heads to Ted Leo’s quick strums. There was nothing desperate, nothing raging or wild about it. It was nice. It was mellow.
Justin enjoyed it as far as I could tell. His face really lit up when the band started playing “Me and Mia.” He always used to play that song when he drove us around in his little Mazda Miata… Ah memories.
The one drawback of this concert was that Ted Leo was sick; his poor voice was so hoarse he could barely cough out the lyrics.
We left early before the crowd. I was satisfied. I think he was too.
If you want to know about some Korean places in New Jersey check this link.
Eh. Today my Gov school friends and I were supposed to have a gathering at 에코누래방 (Echo Music Studio) in Edison, NJ (2090 RT-27, Edison, NJ 08817) yet two of the five people ended up bailing for various reasons leaving Celia, Rory, and me to find something else to do since, although Echo seems to be a REALLY nice place for karaoke, it’s a little pricey. I really wish we could have sang…but oh well. Anyway what we did end up doing was wandering around Celia’s town and going to rent I <3 Huckabees from a DVD rental place while Rory tried to explain to me the confusing (but apparently simple so says Rory) mind of the college boy, or more particularly the mind of a college boy from South Korea who he doesn’t know at all except through things I’ve ranted about to him and Celia. _sigh_
On a side note, I figured out what his message 17171771 meant and well, let’s just say that I wasn’t too surprised to find out what it meant. _shakes head_ I haven’t the faintest idea of what to do about that boy.
So, yes. Anyway in summation, at 6PM EST I drove 25 minutes to Edison, pulled up to Echo, left Echo for Highland Park, chatted with friends, ranted about boys, watched I <3 Huckabees, fell asleep during I <3 Huckabees, woke up with carpet imprinted on my cheek, finished watching I <3 Huckabees, gave hugs, drove back to Echo to pick up my mom’s car, gave more hugs, and drove home.

For whatever reason I seem to have forgotten to talk about my general summer activities (by general I mean the not exciting stuff…my everyday schedule).
So, since I made the unfortunate but inevitable decision to stay home for the summer, I’ve been taking summer classes at NYU and the Japan Society. I’m currently enrolled in Political Theory (@NYU) and Japanese Language (@Japan Society–big surprise I know) and both of these classes have been pretty dull. According to my Japanese TA Tajima-san, I’m the best student in the class and am the only person who gets 100% on her homework assignments. Not as if that’s a particularly difficult task since the homework is only like 2 pages long and takes maybe 5 minutes (tops) to complete.
Meh.
Political Theory on the other hand…well first let’s just say that Political Theory is essentially a class on the Philosophy of Politics and as far as I’m concerned, that’s like taking two boring subjects and putting them together to make an infinitely less interesting course. Not to mention that my professor is crazy and incoherent and talks way too quickly in his French African accent. His lectures are basically like stream of consciousness about Aristotle, Machiavelli, Hobbes, Locke, and now Rousseau and Marx. I’m happy that there’s only a week left, though that does mean I need to finish my paper and complete a take-home final exam. UGH.
I’ve been trying to organize my life better and iCal has been a big, colorful help. Though I guess I wish I had more going on to fill it up.
I feel kind of strange right now…I guess it’s just a weird mood. Maybe the weather or something.

So, I just found out today that VAMPS (a two-member j-rock group comprised of L’Arc~en~Ciel’s Hyde and fellow j-rocker K.A.Z) is touring America this summer and I WON’T BE ABLE TO GO! UGH.
Even so I’m not going to be selfish and not tell you all about the tour…BE HAPPY!

Now, as a follow up to my last post about the Jisan Valley Rock Festival…I will be going to South Korea sometime in the month of July! I am TOTALLY psyched.
Basically for 12 days my friend Diana and I will be volunteering at a Volunteers for Peace organization camp located in Sooncheon (wiki says Suncheon, but there seem to be a bunch of different ways to spell it…), Jeonnam, South Korea in order to help out with the festival going on there during that time frame. THEN either before that happens or after the VFP program is over, she and I are going to be traveling around Korea. We’ll hit Seoul for sure, but we’re also hoping to stay over night at one of the temples there.
Wish us luck!

For any and all of you who will be in Korea for the latter half of July, get ready for the Jisan Valley Rock Festival 2009! The three-day rock fest will be held on July 24th (Friday), 25th, and 26th at Jisan Forest Resort. I’m completely jealous that I won’t be able to attend, but here are some of the AWESOME musicians who will be performing sometime on any of the three days:
Asian Kung-Fu Generation, Fall Out Boy, Jimmy Eat World, Oasis, Priscilla Ahn, Weezer, and Deli Spice (check out the poster for more obviously).
I got this heads up from my friend Byungyoun when I asked him if there would be any cool festivals going on in Korea during the months of July or August (I’ll talk about why I actually asked him about this in another post). Anyway, if any of you are interesting in going, you can buy a 1-day ticket for 88,000 won, a 2-day ticket for 132,000 won, a 3-day ticket for 165,000 won, and if you’re adventurous enough and feel like camping out you can pay an extra 10,000 won to pitch a tent or whatever (this is only available for 2-day or 3-day ticket holders). Click here to purchase tickets!
Magnetic North, an Asian hip hop duo from (New York City or Cali…I’m not actually sure. Their facebook page and their myspace page don’t agree), will be playing at Columbus Park (67 Mulberry) at 4:00 PM on 06-13 (in four days!), at the Bowery Poetry Club (308 Bowery) at 8:00 PM on 06-21, and finally at Kollaboration NYC on 06-27.

I only recently learned about them and they’re songs are pretty cool. Definitely worth checking out at the very least at their MySpace page that I linked above. The tunes or the lyrics of at least two of their songs, “Within the Rhythm / Drift Away,” and “So Long” seem to be highly inspired by Linda Eder’s song “Drift Away” (though actually, listening to a more recent recording/video of this song, they seem to have changed the lyrics so that it’s completely original!) and the song “Winds” by Akeboshi (a j-pop artist most well-known for that song “Winds” featured as the closing theme song for a season of the Japanese anime, Naruto). Their songs seem to speak about more internal or interpersonal struggles that aren’t typically found in hip hop (at least from my experience of listening to hip hop in 7th grade when I was infatuated with this black guy in my class).
This seems to be a trend among the Asian hip hop artists (whether from the United States or some country in Asia), the topics they rap about are radically different than that of Black artists in America. Quite frankly I tend to prefer the themes in these hip hop songs as there’s less of (if any at all) those self-centered lyrics such as “This is why I’m hot / This is why I’m hot / I’m hot ‘cuz I’m fly / U ain’t ‘cuz ya not…” or lyrics of getting off the streets and reformation after living a life of crime, or of course, all the talk of “bitches and hos,” (keep in mind that I’m not trying to say there aren’t merits to the what I’ll call here “normal” hip hop or rap music. It’s great in its own right. This is simply my preference).

Anyway, It’s also a nice touch having a female voice in the group since it adds a much more lyrical feel to the songs.
Hopefully some of you will come out to watch them live sometime this month!
Check out the music video to their song “Within the Rhythm / Drift Away” (the official, re-made version can be found on facebook…Wordpress won’t let me link it):
